Of the numerous historical sites to see around Kanazawa, the most prominent in the city is Kanazawa Castle.
Overlooking the city-center, Kanazawa Castle Park is pleasant to take a stroll through any time of the year. Many of the original buildings were destroyed by fires, but the stone walls still remain and several buildings have been rebuilt.
The park is surprisingly spacious – sometimes it may even feel like you entered a small mountain forest – and is perfect for trying to imagine how the people of Kanazawa once lived.
- The castle park is free to enter!
- Hike up the ramparts to get a nice view of the city.
- The part of the park known as Gyokusen’inmaru is lit up every Friday and Saturday evening from sunset to 9:00 pm.
