Local Markets

Missed Tsukiji Market while you were in Tokyo? Like fresh seafood and produce? You can find some of the best and freshest foods around Kanazawa by visiting some of the local markets.

One of the most popular markets is Omicha Ichiba (pictured above) in the heart of Kanazawa. It doesn’t open until 9:00 am, so you don’t have to worry about waking up at the crack of dawn to get the best goods. However, it is especially busy around lunchtime when visitors and locals alike go to Omicho for food and shopping.

The Wajima Asaichi Morning Market is another well-known local market that you can visit on a trip up to the Noto Peninsula. Since Wajima city is a port city, the fish sold in this lively little market is perhaps some of the freshest you can find in Japan. It does kick off a little earlier than Omicho at 8:00 am, but if you want some great seafood, definitely check it out!
