What do you think of when you think of Japan? Images of samurai are likely to pop up, and in Kanazawa, you can see where some of these feudal warriors once lived!
Nestled behind the modern shopping buildings, visitors can follow the winding streets of Nagamachi where samurai of the Maeda Clan lived during the Edo Period.
Most of the houses hidden behind the plaster walls of Edo are still privately owned and cannot be seen, but there are a few that have been transformed into shops, tea houses, and a museum.
The museum is of particular interest: once the house of a high-standing Maeda retainer, the Nomura Clan house has been transformed into a well-preserved memory of Edo life in Japan. And it’s complete with a tea ceremony experience overlooking the gorgeous garden!
